Tuesday 12/21/10--solstice eclipse

On Tuesday, 12/21/10, at 3:39pm Pacific time, the sun is at the low point of our seasonal cycle, winter solstice in the north, just after a full moon total eclipse at the highest point in the sky earlier at 12:13am. This is an extremely rare coincidence, coming at a time, on the brink, of historic transformation. It has been widely suggested that, due to inaccurate European calendar adjustment, it is this date, not the famously tauted 12/21/2012 (which is not astrologically noteworthy), that was foreseen by the Maya as of great significance, a potent moment in the completion of the evolutionary process described by the Mayan Calendar. I agree.

The Mayan Calendar does not end in 2012. According to the traditional count, kept with precision for many generations, the Mayan Calendar ends on October 28, 2011. It is not "the end of the world," but the completion of evolutionary development going back, not 5125 years (the Mayan "Long Count") or 26,000 years (the "procession of the equinoxes"), but 16.4 billion years, back to the Big Bang that initiated this expansive universe. In his clear and groundbreaking work, the Swedish biologist Carl Johan Calleman ("The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness") has effectively explained that the Mayan Calendar describes a natural, evolutionary process that has driven the emergence of increasingly complex organization in our world, from the formation of elements and living cells to human beings aware of their power and place in creation. It involves nine levels of accelerating vibratory influence moving through the field of existence, culminating with the fully realized potential of humanity as divine consciousness in physical form, clear in its relationship with the organic integrity of all life. The ninth and final level, with twenty times the vibratory intensity of the most recently prevailing one, begins on March 8, 2011, coming to completion, along with the other eight levels, on October 28, 2011. This is of monumental significance, a year of unprecedented consequence, one, I believe, that begins on an astrological level with the solstice eclipse of December 21, 2010.

At 1:22am PT, the eclipsed full moon shifted over the top of our seasonal cycle into the energy release of flowing feeling, Cancer, and at 3:39pm PT the sun reaches the bottom of things, hitting the ground of realism and constructiveness, Capricorn, joining heavy Pluto and activating Mars there. Any full moon alignment of sun and moon reinforces the dynamic potential of the sea tides and all natural energy dynamics. The full moon near the solstice this past June made a "grand cross" of major forces at the four seasonal shifting points, giving a balanced reinforcement to elemental life on this planet. Now, this solstice total lunar eclipse of maximum polarity, at a time of tremendous transformative potential, creates a powerful wave of initiating consequence that will play out with catalyzing drama through the coming year. With 30-year cycle centering Saturn in Libra, love leads the way.

In 2008, expansive, 12-year cycle Jupiter accompanied deep power 248-year cycle Pluto as it moved into the primal force of Capricorn, giving creative energy to a heavy shift we haven't seen since the revolutionary late 1700's, when common folk everywhere demanded the democratic liberty to express their nature without imposed restraint. In 2009, Jupiter joined wound-sensitive Chiron and deep feeling 164-year cycle Neptune in the visionary awareness of Aquarius, energizing healing dreams of life's interrelationship. In 2010, Jupiter met deep mind 84-year cycle Uranus as it completed seven years in the spiritual test of vulnerable sensitivity, Pisces. In 2011, Jupiter and Uranus will both cross into Aries, a breakthrough emergence of revolutionary creative wisdom, nature-based alternatives to the failing ways that have prevailed for too long and which we can no longer afford. It may be a time of upheaval and transformation, at times looking like the end of the world, but the ground rumbling and cracking, the collapse of an unhealthy and unfair social order, the threat of unresolved conflict flashing into conflagration, are consequences of reinforced nature breaking through all resistance, giving new room for the colorful manifestation of organic fertility. That's why they call it flower power.

On the night of 12/21/10, the heart spirit of the full moon will climb high in the sky, releasing its energy in the caring nurturance of flowing feeling Cancer, just as the soul vitality of the sun finally feels the bottom, with power and expression leading it (Pluto and Mars) in grounded, earthy Capricorn. (The Capricorn new moon on January 4, the day Jupiter and Uranus make their final meeting in Pisces, is a solid new starting point.) As we catch this wave of dynamic propulsion and move into a year of historic intensification, let us accept the mystery of creation with the understanding that, even as we are profoundly aware and sometimes challenged, only by accepting the flow of life at every moment--all thought, all feeling, all motion, all stillness--can we settle with peace and light in right relationship with the complex forces of this beautiful world. This could be the end of our gestation and the beginning of purified, harmonious life. May it bring comfort and support to all of good heart.

Surf's up.
